Custom steel fabrication is done for a variety of reasons. And, there are a variety of ways you can do with custom metal fabrication as well. It is a broad term for the process of making metal objects such as your molds, shapes or cuts to the metal to make a final product. There are many different processes that depend on what it is that the final product is going to be. Almost any metal can be fabricated.

Custom Steel Fabrication Processes

Cutting

This is a very common type of fabrication that cuts the material into smaller pieces. This could be to finalize a shape or it could be to make the raw material easier to work with. Whatever the case, cutting metals requires special tools such as CNC machines, power scissors, waterjet cutting machines or plasma arc cutting.

Punching

With a punch press, you can punch out different shapes in the metal sheets. From there it could further go into another press that will further form the final shape. The pieces that are cut out of the sheet are called blanks. A CNC punch press makes this process very smooth.

Stamping

Stamping is what you do to the blank. This will put the desired shape into the part. It is also used to put on letters or stamp the material with a logo or something similar.

Welding is a major part of custom steel fabrication. Getting a good weld is important to the overall end product. There are many different ways to weld from TIG Welding, to stick or arc welding and flux-cored arc welding. It really depends on what you are welding and what your desired outcome will be.
